I started Birdman Canyon because the landscapes of Los Angeles — the canyons, arroyos, chaparral hillsides, and urban-wildland edges — are worth designing with, not just around. Over more than a decade of work, I've developed a range of skills that most designers don't combine: ecological garden design, construction, Firewise planning, greywater and stormwater systems, and large-scale land restoration.

My background is a mix of formal training and deep field experience — the kind that only comes from spending years working in the ground, not just drawing plans. I work with homeowners, commercial clients, and public agencies, and I approach every project the same way: with close attention to the specific ecology, conditions, and needs of that place.

Our philosophy

Birdman Canyon — the namesake of this business — is a real place. One of the many canyons and arroyos that weave through the Los Angeles metropolitan area, it's part of the wild network of open spaces that define this region and shape the people who live here. We believe these landscapes are not a backdrop — they are the thing itself.

In every project, whether a home garden in Mt. Washington or a canyon restoration in the hills above the city, the goal is the same: to create landscapes that belong here. That support the ecology they're part of. That are resilient to fire, drought, and time. That are, in their own way, alive.
